As an Advertising Strategy Director, you will lead a team managing day-to-day client paid marketing programs and coordinate with our growing Creative and Media Teams. Drawing on your strong experience developing digital advertising strategies, you will help us plan targeting, messaging, and creative for advertising campaigns that draw on the best of political and private-sector advertising techniques, while investigating new strategies and creative approaches to help our clients succeed.

To accomplish this, our Advertising Strategy Director needs to:

  • Manage advertising-focused client accounts, provide strategic vision to large-scale advertising programs, and direct strategists and producers to support this work.
  • Bring your political acumen to bear for a wide variety of electoral, independent expenditure, nonprofit, and other cause-based clients. Understand the larger political climate and each client’s particular message, pain points, and political concerns/constraints. Use this knowledge to guide and provide feedback on our work to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Synthesize clients’ goals and challenges as you write creative briefs for visual designers, lead and participate in creative concept brainstorms, and provide guidance and feedback to designers, writers, and project leads as creative elements come together.
    • Work with our Creative Team to guide development of compelling, optimized, and effective advertising creative for use in a variety of formats.
  • Work with our Media Team to develop media plans that maximize the KPIs of various programs (acquisition, brand awareness, persuasion, etc).
  • In collaboration with Media and Creative leaders, review advertising performance data and recommend adjustments, refreshes, and course corrections to programs as needed over the duration of each campaign. Layer creative thinking and insights into the advertising planning process, and learn from program results to consistently improve our ability to optimize creative to target audiences. Help us develop and maintain our internal advertising strategy best practices.
  • Build trusted relationships with client contacts. Educate on advertising concepts as needed, gain approval for advertising program plans, report advertising performance data and insights, and advise on mid-flight adjustments and followup programs.
  • Leverage relationships for business development, participate in marketing and proposal development, and represent Trilogy at pitches and industry conferences.

Ideal candidates will be college graduates with at least 5 years of professional political, nonprofit, or digital agency experience focused on digital advertising strategy. We are looking for candidates who are passionate about digital advertising for progressive organizations and are committed to making a difference for our clients. Strong communications skills are a must.

People with all types of experiences, backgrounds and interests can excel at this position. But we find that the following traits will help you succeed in this role:

  • You've got a political gut: Clients trust you because they know you get it: the politics, the context, the positions, and the issues that drive them.
  • You are relentlessly curious about advertising: What are the creative trends in the digital advertising space? How can we use today's news in our work? What's going on in a client's community?
  • You are a leader: You take an interest in the personal and professional growth of your fellow team members.
  • You are creative. You don’t just draw from the same limited set of solutions for every challenge, but are constantly on the lookout for new and innovative ways to help advertising campaigns break through and succeed.
  • You are practical. You are able to work within the political constraints of a given client and draw from polling memos and other background materials to generate individualized advertising strategies and producible ad concepts.
  • You are organized: You are able to work on a variety of projects at the same time, each with their own client teams and goals, and enjoy developing systems to ensure that nothing falls through the cracks.
